SKIN DEFINE FAQS

ARE SKIN DEFINE GEL PEELS SAFE?

Skin Define Gel Peels are buffered, superficial peels- which offer safe, and effective at home resurfacing treatments without the downtime of a more invasive peel you would have performed in a doctors clinic and at a fraction of the cost! Our Gel Peels are often referred to as “light peels”, “lunchtime peels” and “superficial peels” as you can typically return to work or go about your day as normal, immediately after the peel. The general rule of thumb is: the deeper the Peel, and lower the pH: the higher the risk of irritation and the longer the recovery time. Higher strength peels with lower pH levels are best left to doctors!

All our peels are formulated in a registered laboratory and come complete with a detailed instruction card with pre and post peel care advice.

I'M CONFUSED AND I DON'T KNOW WHICH SKIN DEFINE PEEL IS BEST FOR ME?

We understand! That why we would love you to email us with details on your skin, any concerns you have, what products you are currently using and a list of any recent skin treatments you have had. We are Skin and Beauty Experts with over 15 years experience and promise to respond to you quickly within 24-48 hours. Feel free to attach an up close photo of your skin (with no makeup of course)

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED TO SEE A RESULT?

As no two skins are the same, and many factors can depend on the success of your peels and the degree of your skin condition to start. Details will be provided on the Instruction leaflet provided with your product, however generally you will see results after the very first treatment -with best results if followed by consecutive weekly or fortnightly treatments of 4-6 peels. In some cases where the skin condition is stubborn, a second course of treatment followed by a small break may be desired.

WHAT DO I NEED TO AVOID BEFORE MY PEEL?

  • Avoid waxing, shaving or hair removal in the area for 48 hours before peel, and 7 days between laser and IPL hair removal and peel application.
  • Discontinue Vitamin A, Retin-A products at least 24 hours before peel.
  • Avoid self-tanning in the area, exfoliating products, masks and scrubs 48 hours before peel.
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning 7 days prior for Level 2.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER MY PEEL?

  • Apply a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturiser twice a day and avoid all active products and ingredients (such as Glycolic, Vitamin A, Retin-A, Vitamin C etc) for several days, or until skin returns to normal.
  • Avoid exfoliating products and scrubs for several days and until skin returns to normal.
  • Avoid exercise, excessive heat and saunas for several hours following the peel.
  • Do not peel, pick, scratch or abrade the skin or use exfoliation/face masks until the skin returns to normal.
  • Where possible- delay the use of make-up for 24 hours or use very lightly (mineral makeup is preferred)
  • Avoid laser or IPL treatments on the area treated for a minimum of 7 days

I'VE NEVER HAD A PEEL BEFORE, WHICH IS BEST FOR ME?

We recommend that you start on Level 1 peels and once your skin has tolerated this, you can move to Level 2 if you decide you would like further results. If you are still unsure, please feel free to email us and we would be happy to help you decide!

I HAVE ROSACEA - ARE SKIN DEFINE GEL PEELS SUITABLE FOR ME?

We recommend Lactic 10 Gel Peels for Rosacea, as this is gentle enough for you to use. Initially begin using it once a week, progressing to twice a week once your skin is accustomed to it. Exfoliating with a very gentle acid is very beneficial to mild- moderate Rosacea skin conditions.

WHY IS THE PH OF THE PRODUCT SO IMPORTANT?

For beauty treatments, such as chemical peels, pH is an important determining factor of the effectiveness, and also the safety of the product—more so than the percentage of active ingredients. For example, a product with 50% lactic acid at a pH of 5 is far less effective than a 30% lactic acid at a pH of 2. Our Skin Define Peels are buffered, so they are safe while still delivering the most effective results possible. Our products pH levels range from 1.5-3.0. All our products are all manufactured in a registered cosmetics laboratory.

I HAVE AN IMPORTANT EVENT THE DAY OF THE TREATMENT, CAN I WEAR MAKEUP?

Yes – you certainly can apply makeup immediately after the treatment. We advise to let your skin ‘breathe’ where possible following a peel and for up to 24 hours, however this is only recommended and no harm will be done by wearing make up. Mineral Makeup is advised, as it is less likely to clog and irritate the skin. Mineral Makeup has come a long way and there is literally hundreds now available. If you are not yet a user- we suggest you try it! You are bound to find one that suits your skin! Some have great levels of coverage too!

MY SKIN FEELS VERY DEHYDRATED AND DULL, WHICH PEEL IS BEST FOR ME?

Our Lactic Acid range of peels work to immediately plump and hydrate the skin, and also our combination Lac 15/ Gly 15 Gel Peel (Level 1) will boost the skin hydration, and clarity- getting your glow back!
